My wife popped out a baby girl last Tuesday! I knew it was going to be a girl, everyone was guessing a boy but I knew it. I’m still in the initial whirlwind of baby stuff but it is super cool being a father. It’s crazy how much I love this child! Both my wife and I agreed that we didn’t know it was possible to love someone so much. She watched her first F1 race with me on Sunday, and by watched I mean slept through.

It kind of sucks being back at work, I feel like there’s so much I might miss while I’m here.
Anyway, if you’re ready I highly recommend becoming a parent. I can’t wait until shes at the “Power Wheels” age. Recent google searches include:
“Power wheels modifications”
“Brushless power wheels”
“At what age can kids get into karting”
Happy Monday
P.S. work bought me a Nespresso machine for my office and I am craaaaaaaacked the fuck up at the moment.

Fantastic! I felt everything you described when my little girl was born. Buckle I’m for a wild ride.
Mine is at the age when she likes cars. She helped my car shop and test drive.

That’s great! Haha, my wife went crazy with “nesting” but knew exactly what she wanted. So while there was a lot to prepare for, I just had to take her requests and make a lot of trips to home depot.

Congrabulations at becoming a parental unit to a female bipedal hominid creature. I am also a parental unit to a pair of female bipedal hominid creatures.
I love them both, but I have not slept past 9am since September 2010.

Thanks! I’ve always been a bit of an insomniac, so the sleep thing is a lot more difficult for my wife than I. Also because she is only one that can feed her for the time being.

Congratulations! We’ve got two little ones, too (boy and girl) and they are amazing, wonderful, and endlessly challenging. Everything is different. And I’d never go back for anything.
The best book I read about early parenting was Eat, Sleep, Poop. Highly recommended, not super-wordy and just good, practical advice.

Congrats on the new baby! Your wife is supportive of it so keep that dream of owning a 911 alive so your daughter can also experience the joy of driving.

Thanks, and thanks for the recommendation! I ordered it. I can’t wait until I’m over the anxious wake ups in the middle of the night where I’m like “Oh fuck! I gotta check the baby to make sure she’s still breathing”

Congrats! Everything will forever be changed now, and it’ll be great, mostly, well sometimes, yeah, definitely sometimes...
I don’t know anymore, I haven’t slept well in 5 years... it gets easier as you go. And once you have more than one, you realize how stinkin’ easy one child is to deal with.
Don’t pine too much for the future stages, just enjoy them as they happen, because it goes fast. 3 boys under 5 for now, then baby sister will be joining us late July/ early August. Kids are awesome, and a pain in the ass, but mostly awesome.

If you’ve got the go ahead, buy it as soon as you can, before she realizes she made a mistake ;). Preferably before the first major road trip with baby, because that’s when you realize how much room they take up for travel with all their stuff.

That does get better, but I’m not sure it ever goes away completely. Just this past week our daughter had a cough, and I’d wake up when she had a particularly bad coughing fit; when she stopped coughing I’d go check on her. She wasn’t waking up most of these times, and if she did of course I’d go in, or my wife would.
When the kids were really little we had a pad under the mattress that sensed the slightest movement or motion, even just a heartbeat. I laid down on the crib mattress and held very still, even holding my breath, for way longer than the set time for the alarm, and couldn’t get it to go
off. The idea is if they DID spontaneously stop breathing, you’d know within something like 15 seconds. It’s a terrifying thing; exceedingly rare, but not entirely nonexistent.
One parent of four (his kids are all over 30 now) who I know well said to me, “parenting is just one long series of letting go,” which is just another way to look at it I suppose.
My mantra in the difficult times was “everything’s a phase.” Every single thing the kids did in the earliest times (and even now), that we thought, “wow if you never did that again, that would be OK with me...” one day they just stop doing it.
Take care and enjoy her. She’s only little once.

Congrats! We had our first, also a girl, a bit over a month ago. Man it’s a whirlwind. One day you feel exhausted and like a total failure, the next she’s as happy as can be and everyone is having a great day.
It’s amazing how absolutely everything starts revolving around such a small person. The time does fly though and it’s the most rewarding experience ever, take every minute you can to spend with her.

Still haven’t found the perfect 911? What is your criteria?

997 C2S, 3 pedals, in a “color” the radder the better , and looking for one around 40k. High mileage models aren’t out of the question if the price is right.

I share that sentiment on color. My criteria was louder the better, and absolutely no arctic silver.

So many are silver! I test drove one that was Arctic Sliver and loved it so much that I was ready to buy. The PPI came back and it was a disaster! After that I figured, “ ok if I really liked an Arctic Silver 911 that was beat on, I will be in love with a properly sorted one in a real color. So I’m being much more picky as I continue the search.
One other caveat is that I’m only looking locally (for now) as I want a PPI to be easy and with an inde shop that I know. I’m in a good area for them, but when the search is so specific it’s tough. I just have to be ready to jump on one when it pops up. If nothing materializes in the next few months to a year, then I will expand to places where friends live so I can make a vacation out of it.

Once they get out of those rear facing seats, it’s not so bad. With my three boys, the first one went till 2Y before we flipped him, but his younger brothers didn’t make it that long. I think we waited 20m for the second and my youngest just barely made it over a year rear facing. Now they want you to keep them rear facing up to 4 or 5, or some crap like that. No thanks, my boys would be rightly pissed if we tried that.
Congrats again. Enjoy the time with the little ones, and I’ll pass on a piece of advice I picked up since I’ve become a parent. There is no such thing as “quality time,” just time. So spend as much as you can with your little one, it’s the one thing you can’t make more of.

Holy crap! Sounds like severe cylinder scoring. Did you get an overrev report?
The only way that’s worth it is if the dealer knocks 25k off of the price. Then you give the engine to one of the reputable Porsche engine builders and have them build you a 4 liter engine with LN Nickies, IMS solution, etc.
My search spanned from SoCal to Arizona and all the way up the west coast. I have friends all over then place along the potential driving routes.

A DME report was part of the PPI but after they heard the mechanical noise, they checked the oil then stopped and called me. Which was nice because they charged me less than half the price of the PPI.
“ The only way that’s worth it is if the dealer knocks 25k off of the price. Then you give the engine to one of the reputable Porsche engine builders and have them build you a 4 liter engine with LN Nickies, IMS solution, etc.”
They said almost the same thing!
I’m on the east coast (Philadelphia area) . Two of my closest friends live in areas where the inventory is usually pretty good. One in northern Virginia, the other in Wilmington, NC. I look in those areas often, but don’t have a bunch of saved searches with notifications like I do for home.
It will happen, the best/favorite cars that I have owned have fallen into my lap, for lack of a better phrase.
